대화 중에 유명인의 이름을 별거 아니라는 듯 슬쩍 끼워넣어 그 사람과의 친분을 과시하려는 행동을 말하는 동사다.

명사로도 쓰이며 drop을 동사로 써서 drop name이라고 표현하기도 한다.

“Was that a name-drop?”
(그거 name-drop이었어?)

“He dropped so many names to get a table at that restaurant. It was painful to watch.”
